About Tanya Furry, MA LPC
Child and Family Therapist Tanya Furry has been professionally working with children since 1988. She has worked with children between the ages of 6 weeks and 15 years old, including infants who had attachment issues and were found to present with Failure to Thrive issues.
Tanya was born and raised in Durango, CO. Ever since she was a young adolescent, she has had a desire to work with children. In 1990, she graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a BA in Psychology and an Elementary Education Certification so she could teach. She spent 7 years in a classroom. After gaining real life experiences with children, she went back to school to obtain her Masters degree in Community Counseling. In 2009 she received her license. For the past 9 years, Tanya has been implementing Play Therapy, Theraplay, and Filial Therapy at the Head Start/Early Head Start in Ignacio. She is an experienced therapist with a successful history working with the children and youth in Ignacio, Colorado. |
In the position of Mental Health Specialist at the HS/EHS, Tanya was responsible for helping children and families. She was able to bring her expertise into the classroom and homes, supporting her young clients’ relationship with their teacher and family.
At the end of 2018, the Head Start and Early Head Start program in Ignacio, CO ended. She took this opportunity to start her own counseling practice in Durango, CO, using the programs and experiences she has learned and applying them to children and their families on a one to one basis.
